December 2010
What I’ve enjoyed about this series, other than the fantastic writing and insight, is having people who have a love for certain characters write about them. One of things I love about comics is the personal connection people have with characters. Where I have been able, I’ve invited guest posters to write about characters that I know they have an affinity for. Today’s guest poster is the talented Jill Pantozzi, “the Nerdy Bird” who writes for her own blog, Has Boobs, Reads Comics as well as the column “Hey that’s my cape!” for Newsarama as well as several other comics sites. Jill and I share a love for the same character. Can you guess who she is writing about?
The Nerd Girls are here to rescue you from your family this Christmas and offer you a haven of sanity from cousins, nieces and nephews throwing wrapping paper at you or using your head for a bow rack. Or maybe they can just lull you into a sleep after your big meal.
The girls share some of their favorite memories of Christmas. Spazzy was training to be Catwoman from the time she was a kid. Sapph’s Dad figured out how to thwart nosy children and Spaced loves that Christmas Morning feeling. They talk about some of the swag they’ve already gotten or are giving to people this year. Sapph hopes the people she hasn’t finished presents for yet aren’t listening. Hermey is the best. Muppets make Sapph cry.
Spazzy says she’s behind in her comics but still tells us about The Walking Dead Volume 13 & 14 and Witchblade. Spaced can’t figure out what the hub-bub about The Killing Joke is and Sapph was too busy being crafty to read comics this week but still thinks that they can do whatever they want in Comics. P.S. Oracle is awesome, just the way she is.
Got an iPhone or iPad? Sapph’s gonna tell you some fun games to play as well as some things to waste your time. Spazzy tells us about some Donkey Kong and Kirby’s Epic Yarn. Spaced always loses to Catwoman in Mortal Kombat vs. the DC Universe because she’s worried about Catty having a wardrobe malfunction.
So “GET OVER HERE!” and enjoy your holidays with the Nerd Girls

This week, the Princesses remember the big events of 2010. Remember the Lost series finale? Yeah, that happened. Spazzy reminds us of some of the big events in indie comics, and Meg gives us an overview of Marvel and DC’s shenanigans over the past year. Ska gives us the must-see anime shows of the past year, and Spaced voices her disappointment about the lackluster horror movies of 2010. Overall, 2010 was a great year, but we’ll be looking forward to 2011 in our next episode.
We also discuss the Christmas gifts we got this year, read a few emails, and tackle a few Star Trek related FMKs. Denny Crane!
The opening music is “Present Face” by Garfunkel and Oates, and the closing music is one of the best songs of 2010, “Fuck You” by Cee Lo Green.
So give it a listen.. Or if you wanna know how I act when I have had a few glasses of wine.. (or bottles) check it out!

One measure of a memorable moment is the response that it receives. I can vividly remember the passionate response to this one across the ‘net. And I am happy and lucky to have the woman who wrote this moment to write about it here, Gail Simone.
NICE!
